CLUB HISTORY & PHILOSOPHY
Leeds Medics and Dentists FC was founded in 1974 by Steve Ledger and a group of Medic and Dentist students at the University of Leeds. What began as a one-team club, competing in the University intra-mural league, has over the years developed into huge open-age organisation that competes at the top levels of the Amateur Football Pyramid.
We are now an FA Step 7 Club competing in the Yorkshire Amateur Supreme Division, one division below
North-East Counties. We also have second and third men's team further down the structure, catering for a wide range of ability levels, as well as two student teams that continue to compete in the University Social Sport league. In 2024, we also launched our men's Veterans team, pro-longing football careers of many of our fantastic older generation and alumni.
Our Women's team have also been extremely successful, particularly in recent years where they finished runners up in the West Riding County FA Women's Football League in three of the last four seasons.
Whilst celebrating this success, we also remain true to our roots, with over 50% of all of our players coming from a medical, dental or allied health profession background.
Our short term aims and ambitions are to compete and win trophies at the top level of amateur football, whilst keeping the opportunity to play football inclusive for our medics and dentists, but also other players alike.
